The Hawaii State Federal Credit Union said Friday it is doubling funding to $40,000 for its annual Investing in Education grant program for Hawaii public school teachers.
Beginning today, public school teachers in the Department of Education are invited through Oct. 31 to submit their applications requesting grants to purchase needed supplies, books, furniture, electronic equipment and classroom activities.
“Expanding our Investing in Education program reflects our ongoing commitment to supporting Hawaii’s teachers and keiki,” said Andrew Rosen, president and CEO of Hawaii State FCU. “We are aware of the personal sacrifice many teachers make to provide supplies for their classrooms, and we hope to help lessen that burden.”
Eligible applicants are asked to submit an essay outlining how the grant will help them achieve classroom goals. Grant recipients will be awarded funds between $200 and $500 based on the needs of the classroom. Submissions will be reviewed and awarded as they are received until all 2018 program funds have been disbursed.
Since 2009 Hawaii State FCU has distributed more than $196,000 to Hawaii educators through its Investing in Education program.
