A pedestrian sustained critical injuries after she was struck by a vehicle near Don Quijote in Honolulu.

Police said a 29-year-old Honolulu man was traveling northbound in a vehicle on Kaheka Street at about 11:35 p.m. Monday.

He was turning onto Kanunu Street when he struck the pedestrian, described to be a Honolulu woman in her 30s or 40s.

Police said she was in a marked crosswalk at the time of the collision.

Emergency Medical Services responded and administered advanced lifesaving treatment on the woman, who sustained a head injury. Paramedics transported her in critical condition to a hospital.

Unattended cooking causes house fire

Honolulu firefighters responded to an early morning fire Tuesday at a two-story apartment building in Moiliili.

At 1:33 a.m. units responded to the fire at 713 Hausten St. Firefighters found the second floor engulfed in flames. Twelve occupants escaped without injuries.

The fire was brought under control at 2:18 a.m. and fully extinguished at 3 a.m.

It was determined that the fire was accidentally caused by unattended cooking.

Damage has been estimated at $798,000 to the structure and $30,000 to its contents.
