University of Hawaii Maui College is among the campuses closed Wednesday due to Hurricane Lane.

All University of Hawaii campuses and all non-essential university operations on Hawaii island, Maui, Molokai and Lanai will be closed today until further notice due to the approach of Hurricane Lane.

UH campuses and non-essential operations on Oahu and Kauai may also close as the storm approaches, the university said on its website. Residence halls at UH-Hilo will remain open for student residents.

Just before 8 p.m. today, Kamehameha Schools said in a tweet that campuses, preschools and offices on Hawaii Island, Maui and Molokai will be closed today.

“The safety of our students, families and employees is of utmost importance,” the tweet said.

In addition, all public schools on Hawaii Island and in Maui County will be closed, the Department of Education announced this afternoon.

Families of students in charter schools should contact their schools directly to learn about closures, or visit the charter schools’ website at chartercommission.hawaii.gov.

Earlier today, Schools Superintendent Christina Kishimoto announced in a letter that all after-school activities and athletics statewide for public schools would be canceled for the rest of the week. This includes eight varsity football games on Oahu on Friday and six on Saturday.

More information will be posted at hawaiipublicschools.org.
