Senior midfielder Raisa Strom-Okimoto launched a golden goal from about 25 yards as the Hawaii soccer team topped Bowling Green 1-0 in overtime on Sunday night at Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium.
The co-captain received the ball in open space in the 96th minute shaded to the right of the goal, several yards outside the penalty box, and launched it to the far post where it just curled in out of reach of Falcons goalkeeper Kathleen Duwve.
“It felt like practice, doing so many reps of those kind of shots,” said Strom-Okimoto of her 11th career score. “Just like, natural already.”
Duwve (10 saves) and UH keeper Lex Mata (six saves) had made impressive stops at each end to keep the match scoreless going into extra time.
