Police said the perpetrator pointed a firearm at the victims — ages 28 and 22 — and discharged approximately three rounds at about 3:15 a.m. Sunday. One of the rounds struck a nearby truck.
The suspect and victims are acquaintances.
No injuries were reported, and there are no arrests at this time. The Honolulu Police Department’s Major Crimes Detail is investigating the shooting.
Trio arrested in connection with assault
Police arrested three female suspects for allegedly assaulting a 22-year-old woman in Waikiki.
Police said the suspects, ages 16, 19, and 20, entered a vehicle without permission and attacked the victim, with whom they were acquainted, near Kaiulani Avenue shortly after 3 p.m. Sunday.
Police arrested the suspects on suspicion of violent unauthorized entry of a motor vehicle but released them pending further investigation.
Identity of man killed in crash released
The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office has identified a 46-year-old man who died early Saturday in a single-vehicle crash near Daniel K. Inouye International Airport as Joseph W. Caspino of Waianae.
The cause of death is pending.
Police said Caspino was traveling east in a green 1997 Mazda truck on the H-1 freeway at a high rate of speed at about 1:30 a.m. when he lost control, drifted onto a dirt median and struck a concrete pillar about a quarter-mile east of the Nimitz Highway offramp. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
