Hawaii’s Kelis Kaleopaa and Honolua Blomfield won their quarterfinal and semifinal heats Thursday at the US Open of Surfing Women’s Invitational in Huntington Beach, Calif.
Kaleopaa had a two-wave total of 10.60 in the quarterfinals and a 12.00 in the semifinals. Both were four-person heats. Blomfield posted a 12.90 and an 11.60.
Kaleopaa and Blomfield will compete against California’s Kaitlin Maguire and Jennifer Smith in the final.
In the men’s event, Hawaii’s Tanner Hendrickson, Seth Moniz and Ezekiel Lau won their third-round heats.
Hendrickson scored a 14.50 in his four-man heat, while Moniz had a 13.00 and Lau recorded a 12.30.
Hawaii’s Keanu Asing, Joshua Moniz and Benji Brand were eliminated in their third-round heats.
UH alum Garcia ignites Cardinals’ late rally
ST. LOUIS >> Pinch hitter Jose Martinez sliced an opposite- field single to the right-center field gap off Wade Davis with one out in the ninth inning, driving in the tying and go-ahead runs and lifting St. Louis over Colorado.
Former UH star Greg Garcia singled with one out against Davis and took third on a single by rookie Harrison Bader.
Bader stole second, and Martinez singled on a high fastball, giving the Cardinals their ninth walk-off win this season.
