Several streets in Chinatown will be closed for three days next week while Hawaiian Electric Co. upgrades its electrical distribution system.
Crews will replace utility poles, power lines, transformers and conductors to improve service reliability and provide capacity for future growth.
About a dozen customers in the area will be affected by a power outage 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday. An additional 100 businesses and 50 residential customers will be affected by a second power outage from 7 p.m. Aug. 9 until 6 a.m. Aug. 10. The customers have already been informed, according to Hawaiian Electric officials.The road closures are as follows:
Monday and Tuesday
8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.:
Smith Street will be closed from Pauahi to Beretania streets.
Aug. 9
8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.:
Pauahi Street will be closed in both directions from Bethel Street to Nuuanu Avenue.
Aug. 9-10
6 p.m. to 6 a.m.:
Maunakea Street will be closed from Beretania to Hotel streets; Smith Street will be closed from Pauahi to Beretania streets; Pauahi Street will be closed in both directions from Maunakea Street to beyond Nuuanu Avenue; and Nuuanu Avenue will be closed from Pauahi Street to Chaplain Lane.
