Hawaii County Mayor Harry Kim underwent an outpatient procedure Tuesday morning at Hilo Medical Center where doctors inserted a defibrillator as a precautionary measure, according to a news release from his office.
“Knowing Harry, he’ll be back at work soon,” county Managing Director Wil Okabe said in the release. “We appreciate everybody’s good wishes and support.”
Kim, 78, suffered his fourth heart attack days before the May 3 eruption in the lower East Rift Zone in Puna. In mid-June he was briefly hospitalized for a relapse of pneumonia.
Residents can turn in junk cars for scrap metal
Registered owners may legally dispose of their unwanted vehicles now through the end of the October through the County of Hawaii’s Vehicle Disposal Assistance Program.
A maximum of one vehicle per registered owner may be turned in at no charge for disposal. The owner is responsible for the cost of removing and towing the vehicle from its location to the designated scrap metal recyclers contracted to the county.
The program is run through the Department of Environmental Management Derelict and Abandoned Vehicle Section and could be extended if allocated funds are available.
Registered vehicle owners may submit applications for vehicle disposals at hawaiizerowaste.org/recycle/ automotive.
