Rapper Cardi B and her husband, Offset, welcomed a daughter July 10 and named her Kulture Kiari Cephus.
Cardi, who released her debut album “Invasion of Privacy” in April, leads the MTV Video Music Award nominations with 10 nods (five for “Finesse (Remix),” which is a duet with Bruno Mars), including Video of the Year, Song of the Year and Artist of the Year for the tune. The competition is set for Aug. 20 at Radio City Music Hall (via MTV).
Mars is also up for six awards, all for “Finesse.”
Cardi, who will join the Hawaii superstar on his “24K Magic” tour in September, will presumably stay aboard long enough for his tour’s grand finale two-night stand Nov. 10 and 11 at Aloha Stadium.
Mars, by the way, is a first-time Emmy nominee this year, as music director for his CBS special, “24K Magic Live at the Apollo,” a splendid portrait of his artistry and his sense of place. The TV show filmed sequences with the real folks of Harlem, in and around the fabled Apollo Theater, a mecca for musical greats. Like Mars, three other nominees in this category are neophyte competitors on the Sept. 17 show originating from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles and airing on NBC. The veteran is Harold Wheeler, earning his fourth Emmy nomination for ABC’s Oscar telecast earlier this year. …

Maila Gibson, of the Maila and Ben (Vegas) duo, and Michael Bright, the younger son of Ron and Mo Bright (who was in Broadway’s “Miss Saigon”), will be featured in “The Journey,” a musical revue segment featuring youngsters enrolled in I’m a Bright Kid Foundation’s theatrical arts program.
The program, opening Friday at Paliku Theatre on the Windward Community College campus, will enable the 48 youngsters involved in the musical to strut their stuff in the main attraction, “Once on This Island Jr.”
