In response to the pro-Russia letter published on July 5 (“Russia looks good for summit talks,” Star-Advertiser): In the immortal words of Billy Madison, “At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.”
The more that I reread the letter, the more confused I became. I gathered that Russia has well-groomed people, has well-paved roads, T.G.I. Fridays, good WiFi, and a flag that uses the same colors as the American flag. As a result, America should cast aside the conclusions of our intelligence agencies that indicate the Russian government interfered and is continuing to interfere in our democratic elections. I am convinced.
The only benefit to publishing such nonsense is to highlight how insane and out of place it is.

City can ill afford Ala Moana park plan
The mayor is proposing to increase the amount of parking for Ala Moana Regional Park as a compromise, to spend money the city can’t afford to improve the park for all the tourists who will be getting off the rail at Ala Moana Center.
The sad thing is the ridership will be mostly comprised of tourists so the park will be mostly for them, although that’s not what is being said.
The taxpayers will again be burdened to pay for the park yet we can’t even pay for the rail.
I wonder how much over- budget the park will be for the mayor’s latest fiasco.

Let defense experts handle our defense
Regarding the Homeland Defense Radar-Hawaii environmental impact statement: What a waste of time having these public meetings, and also a waste of money. The U.S. Air Force, Army, Navy and Marine Corps should already be more than knowledgeable of where defense missiles should go. Why not let the experts handle this situation?
We neophyte people are not knowledgeable about the defense of Hawaii and the mainland. Let the experts handle this and forget environmental impact. Defense is No. 1 and more important.
