Same shark has returned to Pokai Bay, officials say
A shark that’s been spotted several times last week off Pokai Bay Beach Park in Waianae returned again today.
Lifeguards cleared the water and posted shark warning signs at Pokai Bay today after the sighting of a roughly 10-foot shark, Honolulu Ocean Safety said.
The shark is believed to be the same 10- to 12-foot tiger shark that has been seen in the area over the past week, the agency said.
Two sharks were seen on Monday, forcing the closure of the bay through Wednesday and again on Friday. One shark continues to return, Shayne Enright, spokeswoman for the city’s Emergency Services Department, which oversees city lifeguards, said Friday.
The shark was not considered to be aggressive, Enright said.
