Na Hoku Hanohano nominee critically hurt
Local musician Keikilani Lindsey was critically injured in a car crash in Wyoming on Thursday.
Lindsey’s two sons, Leo and Kaneala, sustained non-life-threatening injuries in the crash. The three men, who perform as Meleuhane, were visiting the state as part of a tour of the mainland.
According to cousin Karen Ann Rose, who started a GoFundMe account to help cover Lindsey’s medical costs, the car the family was traveling in encountered bad weather and flipped several times. Lindsey was ejected from the vehicle, sustaining multiple injuries and suffering a heart attack.
He was transported to a hospital in Loveland, Colo., where he remains in intensive care with severe injuries to his head, liver and spleen, according to Rose.
Based in Kona, Meleuhane garnered a 2018 Na Hoku Hanohano Awards nomination for best alternative album for their album “Anaspond.”
As of today, Lindsey’s GoFundMe drive (gofundme.com/keikilani-emergency-medical-fund) had collected more than $23,000 toward its goal of $30,000.
