Hawaii island officer fires 11 shots at suspect who remains at large
A veteran Hawaii island police officer fired approximately 11 shots at a Puna man involved in a stolen vehicle investigation Wednesday night in Pana’ewa.
The suspect fled into bushes and police found no blood evidence that he had been hit.
Police are looking for 41-year-old Shilo M. Brent, of Puna, to speak with him about the incident.
Around 11:35 p.m. Wednesday, officers were investigating a report of a stolen vehicle around East Mamaki Street when a Toyota Tacoma and another vehicle fled. The Tacoma then drove toward one of the officers, who had to jump out of the way, police said.
The Tacoma was found after it went over a dirt embankment off of Stainback Highway.
Two officers were giving commands to the lone occupant, who then began pulling out “a long dark colored object,” police said. One officer, a 10-year veteran, fired approximately 11 rounds as the suspect as he ran into bushes.

The officer who fired the shots was placed on standard administrative leave while the shooting is under investigation.
