Body recovered from Wailua hiking trail
A man’s body was recovered this morning from the Sleeping Giant hiking trail in Wailua, police said.
He has been identified as Hunter Bilbo, 24, of Wailua Homesteads.
Police said the victim was hiking the Nounou Trail, also known as Sleeping Giant, late Monday afternoon when he fell about 200 feet over the edge of a cliff.
On Monday, firefighters and air rescue personnel were dispatched to the area around 3:30 p.m. After a nearly three-hour search, personnel in Air 1 spotted Bilbo’s body in heavy brush but had to postpone their recovery operations due to nightfall and rough terrain.
Rescuers resumed their search this morning and hiked into the area where they recovered Bilbo’s body at approximately 11 a.m.
An autopsy is pending, however, police do not suspect foul play.
