Trump lands in Honolulu for refueling stop after summit with Kim Jong Un
Air Force One, carrying President Donald Trump back to Washington after his historic summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in Singapore, briefly stopped at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam this afternoon for a refueling stop.
The plane arrived about 2:05 p.m. after stopping in Guam, where it also refueled. Trump did not leave the aircraft in the roughly 90-minute stop on Oahu.
While on the plane, Trump thanked Kim for “taking the first bold step toward a bright new future for his people,” saying their summit “proves that real change is possible!”
Tweeting from Air Force One, Trump said, “There is no limit to what NoKo can achieve when it gives up its nuclear weapons and embraces commerce & engagement w/ the world.”
Trump is celebrating the agreement to launch a process to denuclearize the Korean Peninsula, though experts and allies are still awaiting details on the broad accord the two sides say they have reached.
Air Force One is expected to land at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland at about 5:30 a.m. Wednesday.
