Kahuku’s Dan Ige needed less than a minute to score his first win in the UFC.
Ige opened Saturday’s UFC 225 event with a 50-second TKO of Mike Santiago in a featherweight bout at the United Center in Chicago.
A right hand seconds into the fight set up a quick takedown of Santiago, who dropped to 21-12 overall and 1-3 in the UFC with his third straight loss.
Ige quickly worked to full mount and Santiago gave up his back, allowing Ige to unload with both hands to the side of Santiago’s head, forcing the stoppage.
Ige, who scored a contract with the UFC after winning a fight on Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series show, rebounded from a unanimous decision loss in his UFC debut against Julio Arce in January.
Ige is now 9-2 overall. Santiago managed to throw only one strike in the fight while Ige successfully landed 29 of his 32 strikes thrown to make quick work of his opponent.
