An owner of Alicia’s Market in Kalihi used an extinguisher and then a garden hose Thursday morning to help firefighters contain a two-alarm fire to the kitchen, Honolulu fire officials said.
The fire was brought under control at 6:02 a.m. and was extinguished at 6:08 a.m.
Residences on the second floor of the building at 267 Mokauea St. were evacuated, and no one was injured, HFD said.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and damage estimates were not immediately available.
Firefighters received the first alarm at 4:56 a.m. and arrived at 5:02 a.m. to find light smoke coming out of the roof vent to the business. They began fighting the blaze, along with one of Alicia’s owners.
Ten units and 36 firefighters responded.
Musician’s bass stolen from parking garage
A prized bass belonging to award-winning musician Chris Kamaka was stolen from his car Thursday morning at the Keauhou Place public parking garage in Kakaako.
Musical instrument store Kamaka Hawaii reported that the theft occurred at about 8:40 a.m. at the parking garage fronting Pohukaina Street and that the suspect was in a vehicle described as a silver Honda Odyssey with license plate number SWG 573.
Chris Kamaka is the bass player for Na Hoku Hanohano award-winning group Ho‘okena.
