The University of Hawaii finished eighth in the nine-member Big West Conference Commissioner’s Cup standings, which is a measure of overall athletic success in the league for the 2017-18 school year, the league announced Monday.
It was UH’s lowest finish in its six years as a member of the Big West since departing the Western Athletic Conference. UH’s highest finish was third in 2012-13, its first year in the Big West.
Cal State Fullerton won for the first time in the Cup’s 20-year history, averaging 116.8 points over the 14 sports it competes in and was boosted by conference championships in men’s basketball, baseball and softball. Former UH athletic director Jim Donovan is the AD at Fullerton.
