Campbell graduate and Oklahoma All-American Jocelyn Alo homered in each game today, tying the NCAA home-run record for a freshman, and helped the Sooners stay alive in the Women’s College World Series at Oklahoma City.

Alo homered in the third inning — taking an outside pitch and depositing it into the right-field seats — of the Sooners’ 2-0 elimination-game victory over Arizona State (48-12) earlier today. She finished 1-for-3 against the Sun Devils.

Alo also homered in the first inning of the second game — a blast to deep left in another 2-0 victory over Florida that eliminated the Gators and sent the two-time WCWS champion Sooners into the national semifinals against Washington on Sunday.

It was Alo’s 30th homer of the season, tying the NCAA freshman record shared by former Sooner star Lauren Chamberlain (2012) and Hawaii’s Kelly Majam (2010). The single-season NCAA record-holder is Arizona’s Laura Espinoza, who hit 37 in 72 games in 1995.

During a postgame TV interview on ESPN, Sooner third baseman Sydney Romero called Alo. “Un-real! It’s been amazing to watch her. I grew up with her and I knew how good she was, but this is something that you can’t match. She’s awesome.”

After Alo’s first-inning homer in the second game, she was intentionally walked in the third and fifth innings, the latter of which loaded the bases. Oklahoma got a run anyway when Shay Knighten struck out on a wild pitch, allowing a run to score for a 2-0 lead.

Oklahoma (56-4) will need to beat the Huskies (unbeaten in the double-elimination tournament) twice on Sunday in order to advance to the NCAA finals. Washington beat Oklahoma 2-0 on the opening day of the WCWS on Thursday, handing Sooner ace Paige Parker her first loss after eight wins in the WCWS.

But Parker was money twice today, pitching back-to-back complete-game two-hit shutouts. She struck out seven against Arizona State and fanned eight against Florida (56-10).
