Campbell graduate and Oklahoma freshman Jocelyn Alo had three hits, including her NCAA-leading 28th homer, to help power the Sooners past Arkansas 9-0 on Saturday and send the two-time defending Women’s College World Series champions back to Oklahoma City.
Alo also homered in Oklahoma’s 7-2 win to open the Norman, Okla. Super Regional on Friday as the Sooners claimed the best-of-three series with Saturday’s win.
Alo, a national freshman of the year finalist, continued to close in on the NCAA record for home runs by a freshman (30) shared by former Sooners star Lauren Chamberlain (2012) and Hawaii’s Kelly Majam (2010). The single-season NCAA record-holder is Laura Espinoza, who hit 37 in 72 games for Arizona in 1995.
Alo’s feats helped the Sooners (55-3) cap an unbeaten season at home at 30-0.
Washington also advanced to the WCWS with a 6-0 win over Alabama on Saturday. The Huskies (49-8) have two players from Hawaii, freshman Nawai Kaupe (Maui) and junior Rachel Ogasawara (Kamehameha).
Oklahoma and Washington meet on Thursday on the opening day of the WCWS at USA Softball Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City.
