Parking is expected to be tight at Daniel K. Inouye International Airport over the Memorial Day weekend due to ongoing construction and increased holiday traffic.
Construction will make Lot B off-limits to drivers as of June 1 and eliminate more than 300 stalls.
Parking will be available at the Terminal 1 parking garage (formerly named the Interisland Terminal Parking Structure) and the Terminal 2 parking garage (formerly the Overseas Parking Structure), but these typically fill up first. Travelers also may park in the International Parking Structure, which is accessible from the ground floor and top level of the Terminal 1 garage.
The state Department of Transportation is advising travelers to arrange rides to and from the airport during this peak period.
A new airport gate and baggage claim numbering system will take effect June 1.

30-year mortgage hits 7-year high of 4.66%
WASHINGTON >> Long-term U.S. mortgage rates rose this week, continuing at their highest levels in seven years amid the peak home-buying season.
Mortgage buyer Freddie Mac said Thursday the average rate on 30-year, fixed-rate mortgages was 4.66 percent, up from 4.61 percent last week. Pushing toward the significant 5 percent level, the new average benchmark rate was the highest since May 5, 2011. By contrast, the 30-year rate averaged 3.95 percent a year ago.
The average rate on 15-year, fixed-rate loans increased to 4.15 percent from 4.08 percent last week.
U.S. home sales fell 2.5% in April
WASHINGTON >> U.S. sales of existing homes tumbled 2.5 percent in April — with the costs of buying a home jumping and would-be buyers facing a persistent shortage of properties on the market.
The National Association of Realtors said Thursday that homes sold last month at a seasonally adjusted annual pace of 5.46 million, down from 5.60 million in February. Home sales have dropped 1.4 percent over the past year, largely because the number of sales listings has declined 6.3 percent.
The relatively healthy job market has bolstered demand to purchase homes. But the inventory shortage, rising prices and higher mortgage costs are weighing on the real estate market.
