The Hawaii County Department of Water Supply is warning customers to be wary of scammers bearing false information, after receiving reports that some customers have been given fraudulent handbills or been visited by people wrongly claiming to be water department representatives.
The agency said it does not call or visit customers outside of regular business hours, 7:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays. If approached by someone claiming to work for the water department, customers should ask for identification and may call 961-8060 to verify employment or check their account status.
