Police arrested a 13-year-old Ewa girl Thursday on suspicion of second-degree murder in connection with the death of her newborn infant, a source with police connections said.

The teen had given birth in February, and allegedly put the live baby in a Dumpster.

When the teen became ill the following day, she went to the hospital, where medical professionals determined she had recently given birth.

The girl’s friend had come forward and reported to police that the mother may have disposed of the infant.

Police searched and found the child dead in a Dumpster.

The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office said it could not provide any information on this case.

The Medical Examiner’s Office had to determine whether the child was stillborn or alive at the time it was disposed of, and only recently made that determination, ruling it a homicide, according to the source.

The Honolulu Police Department declined to comment, and did not provide any information on this case.

HPD’s longstanding policy is to not list any minors under the age of 18 who have been arrested on its booking log.

However, it is unclear what HPD’s policy is, if any, in providing information to the media and the public on its highlight board of felony cases involving minors, whether they are victims or suspects.
