Hawaii’s Ka’iwi Schucht, left, reacted with Emily Maglio after a point against Long Beach State’s Nele Barber and Sasha Karelov during the top-seed match of the 2018 Big West Conference beach volleyball championship, April 28, in Waikiki.

The Hawaii duo of Emily Maglio and Ka’iwi Schucht today were named to the USAV College Beach Volleyball All-America team, one of eight pairs so honored.

Maglio-Schucht, playing mostly at Flight 1, were 35-6 on the season, helping the Rainbow Wahine to a third-place finish at the NCAA Championship earlier this month. They won 23 consecutive matches between March 18 and April 27, setting a program record, and were named first-team All-Big West as well as the Big West Pairs Team of the Year.

It is the second All-America beach award for Maglio, who also was honored in 2016 when playing with Katie Spieler. Maglio is the second Wahine to earn All-America honors in both beach and indoor volleyball, joining Nikki Taylor.

The SandBows now have nine individual beach All-Americans, tying USC for third-most all time.
