Hawaii Hilo third baseman Bailey Gaspar has been named to the Conference Commissioners Association Division II Softball All-West Region first team and utility player Brinell Kaleikini made the second team, the association announced Monday.
Gaspar, a senior from Vancouver, Wash., hit .404 with 10 doubles, 15 home runs and 54 RBIs for the Vulcans (31-15, 19-9 PacWest).
Kaleikini, a sophomore from Moanalua High School, batted .361 with 13 doubles, six home runs and 39 RBIs. She played five positions this season.
There were 14 players selected to both the first and second teams.
Lau wins first-round heat in Brazil
Hawaii’s Ezekiel Lau won his first-round heat at the Oi Rio Men’s Pro on Monday in Saquarema, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Lau had a two-wave total of 13.60 to beat Australia’s Adrian Buchan (12.30) and Hawaii’s Sebastian Zietz (6.57).
Hawaii’s John John Florence finished second and Keanu Asing placed third in their first-round heats.
In the second round, Florence defeated Brazil’s Deivid Silva 12.24 to 10.94 and Asing beat French Polynesia’s Michel Bourez 9.77 to 9.66. Zietz will face France’s Joan Duru in the second round.
