Gov. David Ige signed a bill setting aside $125 million for flood recovery efforts on Kauai and Oahu.
SB 192 designated $100 million for Kauai and $25 million for Oahu.
“We have moved quickly to start relief and recovery efforts. This funding will help take us to the next level,” Ige said.
The $125 million will be used for public facilities repairs, including roads, bridges, county parks and infrastructure.
“The County of Kauai is grateful to Gov. Ige and the state Legislature for their continued support of our community,” said Kauai Mayor Bernard P. Carvalho Jr. in a statement.
A presidential disaster declaration approved Tuesday makes Kauai and Oahu eligible for federal emergency aid.
Ige previously made $500,000 available for emergency response efforts, and an additional $10 million to speed up work to reopen roadways.
BOE rates superintendent ‘highly effective’
The state Board of Education rated schools Superintendent Christina Kishimoto as highly effective on professional standards and effective on superintendent priorities in its year-end evaluation.
“She has demonstrated the kind of leadership skills we need to overcome challenges,” BOE Chairman Lance Mizumoto said of Kishimoto, who began her role in August.
The board used a new evaluation process that included opportunities for the board and the superintendent to talk about mutual expectations, as well as a midyear formative assessment and stakeholder feedback.
