Big Isle mayor opens county eruption information center

The County of Hawaii is opening a community information center in Pahoa today to address questions and concerns for people affected by eruptions in Puna, according to Mayor Harry Kim.
The center will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Sacred Hearts Church hall at 15-3003 Pahoa Village Road.
In addition to providing information about the eruption, the center will offer social services information for evacuees from Leilani Estates and Lanipuna Gardens subdivisions.
County agencies and partners that will be present include, the county’s office of aging, Neighborhood Place of Puna, Child and Family Services, The Food Basket, Bodacious Women, Catholic Charities, HOPE Services Hawai‘i, Big Island Substance Abuse Council and Office of Housing & Community Development, Existing Housing Division.
“We encourage the Puna community affected by the eruption to avail themselves of the information center,” said the news release from Kim’s office. “We are grateful to all the agencies that have stepped up to offer help and comfort to our distressed neighbors.”
