A 52-year-old Waikoloa man, while working for a utility company, was killed after a utility pole fell on him on Highway 19 in Paauilo.
Hawaii County police said the company was using a boom truck at 10 a.m. Wednesday to replace a utility pole on the shoulder of the highway near mile marker 35.
Witnesses said that as the pole was being positioned, the boom collapsed and the pole fell on the man.
Police ID motorcyclist in crash
A 69-year-old Kailua-Kona man fatally injured in a motorcycle crash in North Kona has been identified as Henry L. Peters.
Police said Peters was traveling south on Mamalahoa Highway on Route 190 near the 28-mile marker on a 2006 Harley Davidson motorcycle when he failed to negotiate a turn at about 10:55 a.m. Monday.

Collision in Kihei closes road
A collision on North Kihei Road, about 2 miles south of Honoapiilani Highway, closed the road to traffic for about four hours Wednesday. A white 1990 Ford Ranger facing south on the makai shoulder of the road made a U-turn and was broadsided by a garbage truck traveling south, according to Maui police.
The driver of the Ranger, a 33-year-old Kihei man, was not wearing a seat belt and sustained life-threatening injuries. He was taken to Maui Memorial Medical Center for treatment. The operator and passenger in the garbage truck were wearing their seat belts and not injured.
The investigation is ongoing and it was not yet known whether speed, drugs or alcohol were factors.
