University of Hawaii baseball team beats Cal State Northridge in opener
Maaki Yamazaki and Kekai Rios each drove in two runs to lift the Hawaii baseball team to a 5-3 victory over Cal State Northridge tonight at Les Murakami Stadium.
Jackson Rees surrendered three runs in 7 1/3 innings, walking two and matching a career high with eight strikeouts. Dylan Thomas yielded a run-scoring double, but earned a five-out save, his 11th of the season.
The ’Bows improved to 22-15 overall and 8-5 in the Big West. UH and UC Irvine are tied for second in the Big West, a game behind leader Cal State Fullerton.
The Matadors fell to 17-24 and 5-8.
