The Hawaii Pacific women’s tennis team is seeded first and the Hawaii Hilo men are the top seed for the PacWest Conference Championships to be held in Surprise, Ariz.
The Vulcans are seeded eighth for the 12-team women’s event, which starts Wednesday.
The Sharks are seeded sixth in the eight-team men’s event, which starts Thursday.

Lutzeier, of Blaustein, Germany, went a combined 6-0 in victories over No. 2 West Florida, No. 3 Columbus State (Ga.) and Valdosta State.
HPU baseball falls to No. 1 Azusa Pacific
Ryan Torres-Torioka and Micah Layosa each drove in two runs, but the Hawaii Pacific baseball team fell short against No. 1 Azusa Pacific 5-4 on Monday at Hans L’Orange Park.
The Cougars (33-3, 23-3 PacWest) led 4-0 after three innings. The Sharks dropped to 16-20, 10-18.
UH women’s golfers move up to fifth
The University of Hawaii women’s golf team moved up three spots to fifth after shooting a 299 in Monday’s second round of the Big West Conference Championship in Irvine, Calif.
The Rainbow Wahine are at 39-over-par 607 at Strawberry Farms Golf Club. Long Beach State leads the eight-team field at 589.
Hawaii’s top golfer is Kaci Masuda, who is tied for 12th at 8-over 150. The leader is Long Beach State’s Jennifer Yu, who is at 144.
UH Hilo’s Burleson honored by PacWest
Hawaii Hilo right-hander Travis Burleson has been named PacWest baseball freshman of the week, the conference announced Monday.
Burleson, of Garden Grove, Calif., allowed six hits and two runs over eight innings with no walks and a career-high 11 strikeouts in a 6-2 victory over Concordia in a game that started Friday and ended early Saturday.
Vulcans’ Fernandez is pitcher of week
Hawaii Hilo senior Cyanne Fernandez has been named the PacWest softball pitcher of the week, the conference announced Monday.
Fernandez, a right-hander from Honolulu, pitched a seven-hitter and allowed no earned runs in a 2-1 nine-inning victory over Chaminade on Saturday.
