A Manoa couple avoided injury Thursday evening when a massive boulder crashed onto their Kalawao Street property from a neighboring hillside.
The incident happened shortly after 7 p.m. within the 53-acre Manoa Hillside Estates community.
The boulder, estimated to weigh about 4 tons, reportedly came to rest near a patio area at 2809 Kalawao St., Unit 46.
According to the Department of Land and Natural Resources, the boulder appears to have dislodged from a hillside area owned by the Manoa Hillside Estates owners association.
“Unless they do their own assessment that shows that (the boulder) came from the ridge above (which is controlled by the state), we aren’t involved,” said DLNR spokeswoman Deborah Ward.
