UH volleyball ends losing streak with sweep of UCSD

Junior hitter Stijn van Tilburg put down 11 kills and added two aces as No. 7 Hawaii ended a four-match losing streak tonight, sweeping UC San Diego 25-22, 25-17, 25-19 in a Big West volleyball match at the Stan Sheriff Center.

Sophomore middle Patrick Gasman was in on five blocks and sophomore hitter Rado Parapunov added 10 kills for the Rainbow Warriors (14-7, 2-3 Big West). Senior libero Tui Tuileta had 10 digs as Hawaii outdug UCSD 34-22.

Senior hitter Tanner Syfiestad, the nation’s kill leader (4.76 kps), had a match-high 12 kills to lead the Tritons (9-13, 0-5).

It was Hawaii’s 10th consecutive win over UCSD. The teams meet again at 7 Saturday night.
