A large north swell peaking today prompted a high surf warning for the north and east shores of Oahu, Kauai County, Maui and Molokai.

Surf along north-facing shores could reach up to 22 to 28 feet while east-facing shores could see surf of 10 to 15 feet, according to the National Weather Service.

The warning is in effect through 6 a.m. Tuesday.

“Expect ocean water occasionally sweeping across portions of beaches, very strong breaking waves, and strong longshore and rip currents,” weather officials said in a bulletin.

Additionally, a high surf advisory is in effect for the north- and east-facing shores of Hawaii island.

While public school kids are getting ready for spring break next week, cloudy skies are still expected for the next few days through Wednesday. Forecasters say a strong, high-pressure system centered to the northwest of Hawaii will keep the trades strong through the middle of the week, while high, thick clouds are expected to blanket most of the state over the next few days. Scattered showers are expected, starting at noon today, and through Thursday.
