Early morning closures of airport onramp scheduled for Monday

COURTESY DEPT. OF TRANSPORTATION

Motorists will be directed to Nimitz Highway as an alternate route during the closure.

The ground level, onramp to the H-1 freeway from Daniel K. Inouye International Airport and the through lane to Aolele Street/Paiea Street in Honolulu are scheduled for closure from midnight to 4 a.m. on Monday for sign work, according to state transportation officials.

Motorists will be directed to Nimitz Highway as an alternate route. Travelers exiting the parking pay booths on the ground level will also be detoured to Nimitz Highway via Rodgers Boulevard or Aolele Street.

The full lane closure is needed to remove an existing overhead sign structure located on Aolele Street, and is being scheduled during early morning hours to reduce the impact to the traveling public.

The same full lane closure is scheduled from midnight to 4 a.m. on Thursday, March 29 to install the new sign structure.

Message boards informing motorists of the lane closure and detour will be installed. Airline passengers are advised to allow extra time for travel during the closure.
