Changes at Sunny Side
The current operators of Sunny Side are running a new business called Tanya’s Pie and Grill. The restaurant is currently operating out of the Sunny Side restaurant location in Wahiawa and is still serving Sunny Side favorites.
Sunny Side is a longtime Wahiawa takeout restaurant famous for its fried rice omelets, and chocolate and peach-pear pies.
Though the Sunny Side sign still hangs prominently at the restaurant, a small sign at the order window put up by the owners of Tanya’s, who are lessees at the site, says, “We have our new name, Tanya’s Pie and Grill.”
Ariel Hidalgo, one of the owners of Tanya’s, said the restaurant will close March 31 at its current location on Kilani Avenue because its 10-year lease is up. The eatery will reopen at another site in Wahiawa.
No reopening date has been set and the owners are not announcing the address, he said, because they’re waiting on permits to build a kitchen at the new site.
Hidalgo estimates that it will be four to six months before Tanya’s will reopen.
