A brown water advisory was issued for Waimea Bay on Oahu’s North Shore shortly before noon today.

The streamflow entering coastal waters has resulted in brown water conditions at the bay, according to the state Health Department. The public is advised to stay out of flood waters and storm water runoff due to possible overflowing cesspools, sewer, manholes, pesticides, animal fecal matter, dead animals, pathogens, chemicals and associated flood debris.

While not all coastal areas may be impacted by runoff, the Health Department recommends staying out of the water if it is brown.

As of noon, brown water advisories also remained in effect for most of Oahu’s windward side, including Bellows, Kalama and Hauula beaches, in addition to the stretch of shoreline from Kaneohe Bay to Hauula Beach Park on Oahu. A brown water advisory also remained in effect for the stretch from Oneula to Puuloa beach parks.

Brown water advisories originally issued in the last week of February also remained in effect on Maui, from Maalaea to Kealia Pond and from Waihee to Kahului.
