Toeaina a repeat Big West first-teamer

FULLERTON, Calif. >> Hawaii women’s basketball guard Sarah Toeaina was named to the All-Big West first team for the second consecutive season today, elevating her to rarefied company in program history.
Only the great Judy Mosley had earned that distinction among UH players in the Big West Conference. Toeaina, a 5-foot-11 senior, leads the Rainbow Wahine this season with 16.2 points and 6.1 rebounds per game, shooting 51.8 percent from the field.
The Covington, Wash., native stands 11th in all-time Wahine scoring at 1,180 points.
Between the Big West and Western Athletic Conferences, the only Rainbow Wahine players to receive multiple first-team honors are: Mosley (1988-89, ’89-90); Nani Cockett (1996-97, ’97-98); Raylene Howard (1998-99, ’99-00); and Toeaina (2016-17, ’17-18). Cockett and Howard played in the WAC.
UH (12-17, 5-11 Big West) is the 8 seed in the Big West tournament. The Wahine face fifth-seeded Cal State Northridge (15-15, 8-8) in the first round Tuesday at 4 p.m. (Hawaii time) at Cal State Fullerton.
Toeaina was the only UH player to receive Big West honors today.
