UH’s Pouelsen hurls first career shutout in beating Loyola Marymount

Logan Pouelsen pitched a four-hitter for the first shutout of his baseball life in Hawaii’s 4-0 victory over Loyola Marymount today at Les Murakami Stadium.

The ’Bows and Lions split the four-game series. The ’Bows travel on Tuesday ahead of the coming weekend’s three-game series against nationally ranked Louisiana State.

Pouelsen threw 45 pitches in the first three innings, but then threw efficiently — and economically — after that, finishing with five strikeouts and no walks. He threw strikes on 70 of 105 pitches.

Johnny Weeks contributed to UH’s 2-0 lead. In the first, Weeks hit a grounder to second to advance Dylan Vchulek to third with one. Vchulek then scored on Adam Fogel’s groundout to short. In UH’s three-run third, Weeks drove in a run with a safety squeeze.
