UPDATE June 25, 2018:
Circuit Court Judge Rom Trader dismissed a charge of first-degree sexual assault and one count of abuse of a family or household member against Ioannis G. Broutzakis on June 19 because prosecutors were unable to subpoena the victim, said Broutzakis’ attorney, Victor Bakke. Prosecutors charged Broutzakis in February with sexual assault and abuse involving a 37-year-old woman. Police said the woman reported that Broutzakis assaulted and choked her in Honolulu. On June 19, the state requested a continuance for Broutzakis’ trial because they were unable to subpoena the victim. Trader denied their request and dismissed the case without prejudice, which means prosecutors can refile the case at a later time.
