Department of Energy grants include $150K for Hawaii
U.S. Secretary of Energy Rick Perry announced today that the Department of Energy will award 179 grants totaling $30 million, including one for Hawaii totaling $150,000.
The grants, funded through DOE’s Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs, are for Phase I research and development with a duration of six to 12 months.
Successful Phase I grantees will be eligible to apply for Phase II awards, with a median award amount of $1 million and duration up to two years in fiscal year 2019. The Phase II awards will allow recipients to develop novel prototypes or processes to validate their Phase I research findings.
Some examples of projects receiving grants include bioimaging technologies for biological systems, membranes and materials for energy efficiency and high-performance materials for nuclear applications.
