Kauai police investigating unattended death

Kauai police are investigating the death of a 53-year-old man found unconscious this morning on the front steps of the a county building in Lihue.

A Kauai County worker found the man, who has no permanent address, at about 5:45 a.m. along the front stairs of the Historic County Building Annex.

Police, fire personnel and medics responded, but the man could not be revived, the police department said in a news release.

The man was taken to the Wilcox Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The man’s identity was withheld pending notification of next of kin.

An autopsy is pending. Police do not suspect foul play.
