Flu, hep A, mumps shot day at the state Capitol
Hawaii state legislators are offering flu, hepatitis A and mumps shots today until 2:30 p.m. at the Capitol, which is open to the public.
Rep. John Mizuno, Rep. Della Au Belatti, Sen. Rosalyn H. Baker and Sen. Donna Mercado Kim have teamed up with HMSA and Kaiser Permanente to provide the shots starting at 9:30 a.m. Interested individuals must bring a photo identification and medical insurance cards to get the shots.
In addition, Kaiser Permanente members were required to make an appointment by Friday to receive the mumps vaccine.
“The flu season on the mainland is considered the worst in a decade,” said Mizuno, chair of the Health and Human Services Committee, in a press release. “The only two states that the flu is not widespread are Hawaii and Oregon. We wanted to provide the flu shot, Hep-A, shot and also the Mumps vaccination as this is a coordinated campaign designed to help prevent a crisis situation of a flu outbreak from developing in our state like on the mainland.”
In Hawaii, the activity level of influenza-like illnesses is categorized as moderate by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in its weekly report ending Feb. 17. The current number of confirmed cases of mumps in Hawaii as of Feb. 22 is at 884.
