Sheehan replaces Sword as head of Honolulu Police Commission

Attorney Loretta Sheehan was elected chairwoman of the Honolulu Police Commission 6-0 today.
She replaces retired hotel executive Max Sword.
Sword sought to delay the vote until the commission’s next meeting in two weeks, arguing that incoming commissioner Shannon Alivado should have a vote. But colleagues rejected his request.
Sword, chairman since December 2016, saw the commission through the departure of retired Chief Louis Kealoha, the search for his replacement, and the hiring of new Chief Susan Ballard in the fall.
Sheehan has been the commission’s loudest critic of Kealoha’s administration.
Former Hawaii Supreme Court Associate Justice Steven Levinson was elected vice chairman.
