Minnesota Crookston scored two unearned runs in the seventh inning and held on for a 5-4 win over Hawaii Pacific University on Sunday at Hans L’Orange Park.
Wyatt Hoppie and Trey Yukumoto (Leilehua) recorded two hits apiece and drove in a run for the Sharks (3-1).
Hawaii Pacific returns to the Hans L’Orange Park diamond on Friday at 6 p.m. when they play host to Saint Martin’s for the first of a four-game series.
Shorter to speak at Honolulu QB Club
LifeSport Coaching’s Mark A. Shorter is the guest speaker for today’s Honolulu Quarterback Club luncheon. Shorter is an Ironman certified triathlon coach who has completed 91 marathons, 27 of those being the Honolulu Marathon. He has also completed 41 Ironman races, including eight world championships in Kona. He has been coaching athletes in running and triathlon for over 30 years.
The Honolulu Quarterback Club’s luncheon is at The Maple Garden restaurant, located at 909 Isenberg St.
There is free parking next to the restaurant. Lunch begins at 11:30 a.m. and the program starts at noon. The luncheon costs $16 per person for members and guests. The general public is invited as well.
Hawaii racquetballers medal at nationals
With nine players representing Kauai and Oahu, four of them medaled at the USA National Doubles Racquetball Championships in Tempe, Ariz., on Sunday.
Sarah Houghtailing of Honolulu, won first place in the women’s elite division. Miriam McCloskey (Ewa Beach) took first in the mixed A division and also finished second in the mixed Centurion-plus A division.
Janet Scheffer (Waikele) took second place in the mixed 50B division.
Finishing in fourth place in the mixed elite division were Laura Natividad (Mililani) and Richard Dew (Kaneohe). Also placing fourth in the men’s 40B division were Steven Kaui (Kauai) and Tom McCloskey (Ewa Beach).
Also competing were Douglas Fulp and Ricky Villanueva.
