The Hawaiian Electric Cos. are asking the state Public Utilities Commission for approval to seek new renewable projects for Oahu, Maui and Hawaii island.
Hawaiian Electric Co., Maui Electric Co. and Hawaii Electric Light Co. on the Big Island want to issue a request for proposals to procure the most variable renewable resources to be developed at one time in the state. In line with the Power Supply Improvement Plan accepted by regulators in July, those resources include 220 megawatts for Oahu, 60 megawatts for Maui and 20 megawatts for Hawaii island. Maui home, condo sales jumped in January
Home purchases on Maui surged more than 20 percent in January while median prices were mixed, according to the Realtors Association of Maui.
The trade association said in a new report that the number of condominiums sold last month rose 23.7 percent to 120 from 97 in the same month last year.
The number of single-family homes sales jumped even more, 30.3 percent, to 86 from 66 in the same period.
As for prices, condos sold for a median $505,563 in January, down 3.7 percent from $525,000 a year earlier.
Single-family homes sold for a median $707,000 last month, up 7.1 percent from $660,000 a year earlier.
