Honolulu police opened an attempted-murder investigation after a teen was shot in the back by masked gunmen in Waianae early Friday.
At about 1:50 a.m. on the 86-900 block of Hale Ekahi Drive, a 19-year-old man was standing outside with a group of people when a vehicle approached them. About four to five suspects wearing masks exited the vehicle and fired multiple gunshots at the group, police said.
City Emergency Medical Services said the 19-year-old man sustained a gunshot wound to the back and was treated and transported in serious condition to a trauma center.
Man who died swimming on North Shore ID’d
A visitor has died after he was found unresponsive in waters at Three Tables Beach on the North Shore.
The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office has identified him as Lamar Chapman Jr., 56, of Los Angeles.
Around 2:45 p.m. Thursday, Emergency Medical Services said, a man later identified as Chapman was swimming near Waimea when he got into trouble and became unresponsive.
Paramedics transported him in critical condition to a hospital, where he died. The cause of death is pending.
Drug, other charges land felon back in jail
A recently released felon is back in the Hilo cellblock after he was found sleeping in a stolen truck in Puna on Wednesday.
Kahekili Krause was released from jail Jan. 25 after pleading guilty to five felony offenses a week earlier.
Krause was charged Friday with unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle, third-degree promotion of a dangerous drug, prohibited acts related to drug paraphernalia, second-degree unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle, second-degree criminal trespass and two counts of habitual property crimes.
