UH law school named best for Asian students
The William S. Richardson School of Law at the University of Hawaii at Manoa has been noted as the best school for Asians, and a top school for clerkships in the Winter 2018 issue of preLaw Magazine.
PreLaw Magazine — published by Cypress Magazines for pre-law students — features news, trends, rankings, advice and inspirational stories.
The UH law school’s percentage of Asian students is 23.9 percent, with 47.9 percent of the faculty of Asian background, according to most recent statistics available to preLaw.
The magazine quotes UH law school Dean Avi Soifer saying: “Diversity is not simply recognized, it’s celebrated.”
Soifer said the UH law school attracts many students of Asian descent because of its rich offering in Asian law courses and its Pacific-Asian Legal Studies Program and certificate. Courses are offered in Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Filipino law, major pluses in a globalized world that continue to draw Asian-related legal work to U.S. law firms, he said.
UH was also ranked among the 25 best law schools for clerkships, considered important learning experiences and networking opportunities for recent graduates. The magazine has a print circulation of 45,000 and an additional 6,000 digital subscribers.
