Rainbow Wahine give Beeman 100th career win
The Hawaii women’s basketball team got the better of Cal State Fullerton in a back-and-forth affair, 59-54, tonight at the Stan Sheriff Center.
Sixth-year coach Laura Beeman recorded her 100th career win in Manoa and UH improved to 10-14 overall and 3-8 in Big West play.
Sarah Toeaina scored 21 points and Lahni Salanoa had two key late layups as the Rainbow Wahine closed the game on an 8-2 run, avenging a 12-point loss at CSUF (7-15, 2-7) to begin conference play. There were eight ties and 17 lead changes.
Toeaina tied it up at 45 on a drive and Lauren Rewers scored a bank shot to put the Wahine up. CSUF tied it up twice more and Hannah Thompson’s free throw made it 50-49 Titans.
Kenna Woodfolk scored on a hanging shot from 5 feet, answered by Carolyn Gill’s driving bucket. Tia Kanoa fed Salanoa for a layup and 53-52 lead with 1:30 remaining and UH stole the ball at the other end.
Salanoa scored inside again on a give from Tago, Daeja Smith missed inside and Woodfolk leaked ahead for a layup and five-point lead with 27 seconds left.
