Maui look-alike admits he scammed Disney fans
A 24-year-old California man who looks like the character Maui from Disney’s animated movie “Moana” lost an offer to work at Disneyland after complaints surfaced about him scamming fans.
Kyle Paala, of Torrance, was booked to appear at parties as the demi-god, but didn’t show up, telling one San Bernardino, Calif. mother that he couldn’t make her daughter’s birthday party because his aunt was sick and in the hospital, abc7.com in Los Angeles reported.
“I did use that as an excuse. It wasn’t true,” Paala said on the radiounderland.com podcast.
ABC7 said Disney rescinded an offer to employ him as a general worker.
On the podcast, Paala also said he was involved in a scheme to sell Disneyland tickets, but not all of his buyers received them.
“I owe a lot of people money,” he said.
