Man, 22, charged in fatal stabbing in Waipahu
A 22-year-old man has been charged with murder in connection with the fatal stabbing of a 23-year-old man in Waipahu.
Aiven Angei appeared in District Court today after he was charged Wednesday with second-degree murder in the death of the victim identified in court records and by the Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office as Jonathan Makana Kanui-Flores.
Deputy Public Defender John Foster pleaded not guilty to the charge on Angei’s behalf. A court-appointed Chuukese interpreter assisted Angei during his arraignment.
Judge James Kawashima confirmed his bail at $1 million.
Kanui-Flores of Ewa Beach died of stab wounds to his head and torso, according to the medical examiner’s office. The manner of death was classified as a homicide.
The stabbing occurred in the parking lot of a convenience store in Waipahu early Sunday. At about 2:25 a.m., police said the suspect later identified as Angei and Kanui-Flores got into a scuffle when Angei stabbed him.

Kanui-Flores was transported in critical condition to Queen’s Medical Center where he died Monday.
Police arrested Angei in Waipahu Monday night.
